Hulu Adds More Value With Skinny Bundles, Original Series And Documentary Division

Hulu's annual upfront presentation this week brought news beyond just the standard series pick-ups and renewals.

As leaked earlier in the week, Hulu has announced its getting into the streaming "skinny bundle" game with a new service. While a final price has not been confirmed many have it pegged at $40 and will include channels from Hulu's partners Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) and Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ: FOXA). CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS)'s Les Moonves has also said he would consider supporting the venture depending on what type of arrangement was being offered.

The streaming service will still offer viewers all of the network's usual programming on-demand style, but this move gives subscribers extra overall value. More details will be revealed later on this year, and its expected more companies like Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) could get involved in the field as well.

Hulu also used the presentation to announce its well-received drama series "The Path" has been renewed for a second season, while acquisition "The Mindy Project" will return for a fifth season. The network's original programming has become a vital part of its success, as investors has been happy with the results of its latest round of series.

"Mad Men's" Elizabeth Moss and "House's" Hugh Laurie are among the stars signed up to front new Hulu originals in 2016. Ron Howard's documentary, "The Beatles: Eight Days A Week," will also come to the next network as the first project under Hulu's new docu-division.
