Fox Announces 6 New Pickups, Including 'Pitch' and 'Lethal Weapon'
The other week, Twenty-First Century Fox Inc (NASDAQ: FOXA) started its shopping for the 2016–2017 season by officially greenlighting "24" reboot "Legacy" and "Empire" co-creator Lee Daniels' newest project "Star." On Tuesday, executives gave six more shows the good news, including four dramas and two comedies.
On the drama side, the new entrants run the gauntlet including small-screen adaptations of "The Exorcist" and "Lethal Weapon." Film-to-TV has been a big trend in recent years despite the smaller than expected conversion rate with audiences. Fox also gave the go-head for baseball drama "Pitch," which revolves around the first female baseball player, and "APB," which centers on a police station bought by an eccentric tech mogul.
Fox will also stay in business with "The Last Man On Earth's" creators Phil Lord and Chris Miller through time travel comedy "Making History." The series stars "Happy Endings" alum Adam Pally and "Gossip Girl's" Leighton Meester. The network also ordered Kaitlin Olson-staring "The Mick," which has been receiving strong buzz from the onset.
Fox announces its full 2016–2017 schedule next week.
