Showtime Bolsters Original Programming With Limited Run Drama 'Purity'

Share:

One of the industry's hottest upcoming projects now has a home.

It was announced on Wednesday that CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS)'s Showtime has won the rights to "Purity," a new limited series starring Daniel Craig. Based on the book by Jonathan Franzen, the series follows the post-college adventures of a aimless young woman named Purity. Craig will play one of the people Purity (aka Pip) meets along her journey.

"Purity" is a unique project in the way it is structured. The series will be comprised of two 10 episode seasons (presumably) airing over two years. Franzen will share directing duties while executive producing the series along with Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, David Hare and Craig.

Along with the Kurt Russell/Mel Gibson driven "Barbary Coast," "Purity" has been part of a growing trend of buzzy series being developed without a network attached to it from the start.

Showtime will also have the highly anticipated "Twin Peaks" reboot set for 2017, which will further boost the premium network's roster.
