2017's Key Events

Friday's trading session is the last one of 2016 which means its time to start planning out 2017.

Here is Bloomberg's compilation of key events investors and traders should probably set in their calendars.

January

• January 20: President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as U.S. president.
• January 17-20: The World Economic Forum will take place in Davos, Switzerland.
• American companies will begin disclosing a pay ratio which compares their CEOs pay to the median pay of employees.
• On or before January 8 the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision will complete an overhaul of capital standards.

February

• A U.S. patent dispute involving a gene-editing technique called Crispr-Cas9 is expected to be ruled as early as February.
• U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen will give her first report to Congress.

March

• The $43 billion merger between ChemChina and Syngenta AG (ADR) (NYSE: SYT) is expected to close.
• The UK's Prime Minister Theresa May is expected to officially begin the legal process for the country's separation from the European Union.

April

• The European Central Bank is likely to cut back its quantitative easing program and slash its bond buying program to 60 billion euros.
• India's first ever national sales tax will kick in.

May

• G-7 officials will meet in Sicily.

June

• The U.S. Federal Reserve is likely to release the results from its annual bank stress test.

July

• July 7 through 8: Representatives from the Group of 20 nations will meet in Hamburg.
• July 21: Deadline for U.S. banks to divest their investments in private equity and hedge funds.

October

• October 13 through 15: Annual meeting of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.
