E-Cigarette Maker Juul Labs Is Now Worth $15 Billion
Juul is a booming e-cigarette company thanks to its popularity with teens and young adults. Juul is currently valued at $15 billion after a recent funding round.
The company's growth is meteoric. Juul's dollar share of e-cigarette sales soared to 53 percent from 16 percent at the end of 2017.
Revenues are nearing $1.5 billion. It's hard to say why Juul's e-cigarettes are so popular.
But flavors like mango and cucumber, and the fact that pods contain the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes, hint at why Juul is so appealing to users. The CDC says Juul pods contain some of the highest levels of nicotine content in the U.S. e-cigarette market.
Juul's market dominance has led to intense scrutiny from the FDA. The FDA seized over 50,000 pages of documents on sales and marketing from Juul's headquarters in October.
