As GM Launches $300K Cadillac Celestiq EV, Twitterati Have A Field Day, With One Likening It To Now-Defunct '18K Gold Apple Watch Edition'

General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) unveiled its Cadillac unit’s flagship electric vehicle, Celestiq, on Monday.

What Happened: Celestiq will be personally commissioned, with clients working directly with their selected dealers, Cadillac said in a release. In terms of specification, the EV will be powered by a 111-kWh battery pack and have a two-motor, all-wheel-drive propulsion system. The vehicle's estimated range is about 300 miles on a full charge and it will go into production in December 2023.

Cadillac’s ultra-premium vehicle, however, set tongues wagging, with most balking at its $300,000 price tag.

A Twitter user compared the Celestiq's price tag to the "18k Gold Apple Watch Edition,” which Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) launched in May 2015. It was priced at a whopping $10,000.

Another user chimed in with their views and addressed it to President Joe Biden, who is an ardent backer of GM, and its CEO Mary Barra.

A third user seemed to think GM is trying hard to stand out.

They are trying very hard to stand out but their project dont appeal to mass. I mean 300k price tags for a car with flashy lights and not much of software advancement is road paved to failure.

Another suggested that no one will remember it just like they don’t remember the Cadillac ELR — a two-door, luxury plug-in hybrid. It was manufactured and marketed in 2014 and 2016, with a pause in the intervening year. Manufacturing ended in February 2016 after merely 3,000 units were manufactured.
