Musk Reportedly Personally Moderating Tweets On Brazil's Election As Lula Beats Bolsonaro In Ugly Contest

Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk is reportedly moderating tweets related to the recently concluded Brazil election personally.

What Happened: The entrepreneur is "constantly calling balls and strikes," reported The New York Post, citing a person familiar with the matter.

Musk is for now reportedly following the content moderation rules in place before he purchased the social media website.

On Wednesday, Luis Inacio Lula da Silva won the Brazil election for presidency, defeating the incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in runoff polls.

The Brazilian election has been overshadowed by disinformation spread by allies of both Lula and Bolsonaro, noted the Post.

Bolsonaro has refused to concede defeat in the polls but has said he would abide by the country's constitution, putting an end to fears that he would try to overturn results, according to the report.

Why It Matters: Twitter personnel in charge of Twitter policies during Brazil's election received access to internal moderation tools on Sunday but in a limited capacity, reported Bloomberg.

Typically, moderation access is available to a group of people in the hundreds but it reduced to 15 last week, according to Bloomberg.

On the reduction in moderation access, Yoel Roth, Twitter's head of safety and integrity, said, "This is exactly what we (or any company) should be doing in the midst of a corporate transition to reduce opportunities for insider risk. We're still enforcing our rules at scale."

Roth's statement is notable as the U.S. is headed for mid-term polls beginning Nov. 8, with all 435 seats up for grabs in the House of Representatives. The fate of 35 seats in the 100-member Senate will also be decided.
