Security Experts, Buckle Up! Facebook Parent Offering Hefty Sum To Find Vulnerabilities On Quest, Portal Devices

Meta Platforms Inc.'s (NASDAQ: META) latest virtual reality device, Quest Pro, along with other VR headsets, are now eligible for the Bug Bounty Program. 

What Happened: To strengthen the security of its hardware products, Meta announced new payout guidelines for Bug Bounty Program. It also included its latest products — Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest Touch Pro controllers — in the program.

The tech giant will pay a hefty sum to security researchers for specific bugs and vulnerabilities uncovered by them on products like Quest Pro, Touch Pro controllers, Quest 2, Quest 1 and some non-VR hardware products as well.

"These new guidelines range as high as $130,000 for ATO reports and $300,000 for mobile RCE bugs, making our Bug Bounty program one of the highest paying in the industry," Meta stated in a blog post. 

Why It's Important: Meta started the Bug Bounty program in 2011 and has paid $16 million. Since the beginning, the tech giant has received 170,000 reports, of which more than 8,500 were awarded a bounty.

This year, Meta awarded more than $2 million to researchers from about 45 countries and received approximately 10,000 reports.

India, Nepal and Tunisia are the top three countries based on bounties awarded this year.
