RIP Leon...Or, Maybe Not: Why Apple's New Ad Features A Dead Lizard Coming Back To Life

Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) new ad features an almost dead pet lizard, a man and iOS 16’s ability to unsend messages.  

What Happened: It is pretty common to send messages to the wrong person/group or make typing errors that can lead to certain embarrassment.

Apple’s new ad revolves around the same everyday texting issue, but it offers a solution too. 

The ad features an individual looking pale and sitting next to a seemingly lifeless lizard. He tries to touch and gently nudge the lizard to see if it's showing any signs of life but regretfully decides on the worst possible outcome. 

He then sends a text via iMessage to the lizard’s owner, saying, “Leon is dead.” The lizard springs to life when he taps on the send button. The person quickly retracts the message by choosing the Undo Send feature.

Why It’s Important: To unsend or edit messages, users must have iMessage with iOS 16 or later, iPadOS 16 or later and macOS Ventura. Users can “unsend” the messages for up to two minutes after being sent. 

Just touch and hold the message bubble and tap on Undo Send. 

If the message recipient uses iOS/iPadOS 15.6 or earlier, macOS 12 or earlier, or SMS, the original message will remain along with a follow-up message accompanied by a preface “Edited to.”
