Nio Builds 21 Battery Swap Stations On 1,260-Mile Highway That Aims To Connect China With Taiwan

Nio Inc (NYSE:NIO) has reportedly built 21 battery swap stations along the 2,030 km (1,261 miles) G3 Beijing-Taipei highway which aims to connect Mainland China with Taiwan.

What Happened: Nio’s battery swap station network completed initial coverage of the G3 Beijing-Taipei highway linking northern, eastern, and southeastern China, reported CnEVPost.

There are now 21 battery swap stations with one battery swap station every 112 kilometers on average along the route running through Beijing, Hebei, Shandong, Fujian, and Taiwan, the report added.

With the addition of the new highway, Nio’s battery swap station network now covers 6 vertical highways, 3 horizontal highways, and 8 urban clusters, CnEVPost said.

Nio reset its goals for battery-swap stations in February. The company said that it expects to add 1000 battery swap stations in 2023 as opposed to the 400 stations target it announced in December.

If the forecast is achieved, Nio would have 2,300 battery-swap stations by year-end.

The Chinese EV maker is a proponent of the battery-swapping service over battery charging and claims that it takes just 3 minutes to swap a fully charged battery.
