Trump's 2020 Election Case: Judge Tanya Chutkan To Hear Arguments On Protective Order Request
Federal Judge Tanya Chutkan, presiding over Donald Trump‘s 2020 election conspiracy case, will hear arguments related to a protective order request by prosecutors on Aug. 11, reports Associated Press News.
The protective order, requested by special counsel Jack Smith's team, intends to bar the former president from publicly disclosing evidence shared by the government.
Trump’s lawyers argue that the proposed protective order infringes upon his free speech rights. The prosecutors’ concerns stemmed from a post on Trump’s Truth Social platform, where the former president hinted at retaliating against those who “go after” him.
The hearing will mark the first time both parties appear before Judge Chutkan, known as a strict punisher of defendants charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Trump is not expected to attend the hearing.
