Peter Schiff Uses AOC's Call For Better US Sunscreen To Drive Home A Point — 'Government Drives Costs Up And Quality Down'

On Sunday, Peter Schiff, Chief Economist & Global Strategist at Euro Pacific Capital, commented on the quality and cost implications of government interventions, using sunscreen as an example. He also extended an invitation to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) to listen to his podcast for insights.

What Happened: Schiff’s tweet stated, “Government drives costs up and quality down. Sunscreen is just one example. There’s a great lesson for AOC to learn here. The road to hell, or in this case skin cancer, is paved with good intentions. There may be hope for her yet. She just needs to start listening to my podcast.”

This tweet was in response to AOC’s comment on US sunscreens lagging behind global standards, emphasizing that regulations aren’t necessarily making sunscreens better or safer.

Why It Matters: Schiff’s comments often revolve around the implications of government interventions and regulations on the economy.

He believes that free market regulation and personal responsibility are paramount. His criticisms come at a time when discussions about inflation, government spending, and corporate regulations are at the forefront of economic debates. Schiff’s perspectives offer a counter-narrative to popular opinions, emphasizing the importance of free-market principles.

In previous instances, Schiff has pointed out the hidden inflationary effects, using Disney World’s wristbands as an example. He highlighted that many price increases don’t reflect in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

He also criticized the U.S. Justice Department’s antitrust lawsuit against Google, emphasizing that antitrust laws lead to higher consumer prices and affect productivity.
