House GOP Issues Subpoenas To FBI And IRS Officials In Hunter Biden Investigation
House committees subpoenaed officials of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regarding alleged political interference in the Hunter Biden investigation, Axios reports.
On Monday, two F.B.I. special agents and two I.R.S. officials were summoned in connection to an October 2022 meeting. U.S. Attorney David Weiss allegedly claimed he was prevented from pressing charges against President Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden outside Delaware. Representatives Jim Jordan and Jason Smith, chairs of the House Judiciary and Ways & Means Committees, stated the administration “stonewalled” their voluntary testimony requests. They emphasized the importance of the subpoenas to discern how “the President’s son received special treatment from federal prosecutors.”
The subpoenas relate to I.R.S. whistleblower testimony that Weiss was denied special counsel status, seeking more discretion in charging decisions. Both Attorney General Merrick Garland and Weiss have refuted these allegations. Garland’s recent appointment of Weiss as special counsel has raised questions about the veracity of their congressional statements.
