Does Apple Have A Sweet-Sounding Surprise Lined Up At September 'Wonderlust' Event? Here's What We Know

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could spring a surprise with an unexpected product launch at its highly-anticipated September 12 launch event titled ‘Wonderlust'.

What Happened: Apple is now expected to launch a new pair of AirPods at its Sept. 12 event, with the charging case expected to feature a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port, reported Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

This coincides with Apple's decision to switch to the USB-C port on the iPhones, in accordance with European Union regulations.

Apple has long been rumored to launch AirPods with a USB-C port, with the most recent report from March from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggesting that we could see a pair of AirPods with the USB-C port. It's not clear yet if this will be an entirely new version of AirPods or just an existing one with the new port.

However, switching to the USB-C port on the iPhones makes this a good time for Apple to make the switch on the AirPods as well, given that these two products are often used together more often than not.

It's not just the ease of use that having a single port offers – European Union regulation makes it mandatory for iPhones and other small devices to charge via the USB-C port, so this gives Apple the required push to make the switch on the AirPods as well.

About The September 12 ‘Wonderlust' Event: Apple is widely expected to launch the iPhone 15 series at its September 12 ‘Wonderlust' event. The first signs of this launch date were revealed earlier in August when major US carriers had reportedly asked their employees to be present for a major smartphone launch.

In addition to the iPhone 15 series, we could also see the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 being introduced on September 12. On the software front, the iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, and watchOS 10 updates are expected to be rolled out to the public.
