Exciting Upgrades Coming To Apple Watch Series 9 And Watch Ultra: Report

In a new development, major upgrades are on the horizon for Apple Inc’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Watch Series 9 and the Apple Watch Ultra, potentially boosting their performance and feature set.

What Happened: As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported on Friday, the upcoming Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) timepiece series will undergo notable enhancements. Although the models will retain their present size and design, they will soon sport new materials and colors. According to the report, there will be an increased usage of recycled materials, with the Apple Watch Ultra anticipated to debut in a new black variant.

Both models are set to receive “various sensor and internal component upgrades”, including an enhanced heart rate sensor, improving efficiency and sensor accuracy. Additionally, the watches will likely feature a new U2 ultra-wide-band chip, boosting the Find My feature’s effectiveness.

Addressing recent speculations about Apple discarding leather, the report confirms that only “some” leather watch bands will be phased out. Rumors have circulated about Apple’s transition to a woven composite fabric, affecting both iPhone cases and Apple Watch bands. Mark Gurman, known for his accurate forecasts of Apple’s plans, reported these updates.

Why It Matters: This news follows Apple’s sustained dominance in the global wearables market despite a slight dip in the growth rate during Q2 2023. With these upgrades, Apple seems to strengthen its position in the wearable technology market.

Earlier in August, Gurman reported that Apple was preparing for a “splashy upgrade” for the tenth-anniversary edition of its smartwatch. The anticipated improvements to the Series 9 and Ultra models may be a part of this strategic move by Apple, diversifying its product offerings and giving consumers more reasons to invest in a new watch.
