Here's Why iPhone 15 Pro Boasts 20X Faster Data Transfer Than Non-Pro Models Via USB-C

The latest models of Apple Inc‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 15 Pro are garnering attention for their impressive USB-C port, which delivers data transfer speeds that are 20 times faster than the base iPhone 15 models.

What Happened: A recent report from Cult of Mac highlighted the superior data transfer speed of the Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. These models support USB 3.2 Gen 2, which offers a data transfer rate of up to 10GB per second. This starkly contrasts the base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models that support USB 2.0 and have a maximum data transfer speed of 480MB per second.

Despite initial speculations, there’s no Thunderbolt support for the 2023 iPhones. The lack of Thunderbolt implies that the maximum data transfer rate for the new Pro models remains at 10Gbps.

Why It Matters: Apple’s transition to the USB-C port started with the unveiling of the iPhone 15 series at the ‘Wonderlust’ event. The company had to switch to the USB-C port following the European Union’s mandate that required mobile device makers to adopt the USB-C standard by the end of the year.

This move left a few Apple products with its proprietary connector, causing users with Lightning cables to search for a dongle yet again.

Despite this, the USB-C port’s enhanced speed proves advantageous for videographers and photographers who deal with large file transfers. The faster data transfer rate allows for quicker unloading of substantial video files, making it an ideal choice for professionals in the field.
