Tesla CEO Elon Musk Calls It 'Fun Competition' After Revamped Porsche Taycan Caught Testing At Nürburgring

Tesla Inc CEO Elon Musk on Thursday reflected on the speed rivalry between Porsche‘s Taycan and its own Model S Plaid.

What Happened: “It's a fun competition” Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter. He was responding to a user who noted that a revamped Taycan was spotted testing at Nürburgring, possibly targeting the Plaid’s record. The user also shared a media article that said that the updated vehicle might have over 1000 hp power, similar to the Plaid which has 1,020 horsepower. Porsche is owned by Volkswagen AG (OTCPK: VWAGY).

In June, Tesla took to Twitter to say that the Model S Plaid with track pack set a new lap record for a production electric vehicle at Nürburgring. The lap time of 7:25.231 beat the previous record set by Porsche's Taycan Turbo S by more than eight seconds.

Why It Matters: Nürburgring is the legendary test track in the German town of Nürburg. "One track, one lap, one lap time – the lap record on the Nürburgring is the ultimate achievement for all manufacturers championing sporty driving," Nürburgring says on its website.

Musk’s comment left Tesla fans musing how all competition would be obliterated on the arrival of the new Tesla Roadster. Touted to be the "quickest car in the world" by Tesla website, the new Tesla Roadster is expected to reach production by the end of next year.
