Google Unveils 'Assistant With Bard' Powered By Generative AI For Android, iOS

Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google is giving a boost to its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts on mobile.

The tech giant announced "Assistant with Bard," a new generative AI-powered personal assistant, at the Made by Google 2023 event on Oct. 4.

What Happened: Google Assistant, the company's personal assistant available on Android and iOS devices, received a power boost with Bard. Simply named “Assistant with Bard,” Google is trying to make its personal assistant smarter using its generative AI learnings.

Google says Assistant with Bard combines the personalized help of Assistant with the generative and reasoning skills of Bard.

For instance, users will be able to interact with its next-generation Assistant via text, image or voice.

Over the course of its development, Google will let Assistant with Bard take actions on users' behalf. Creating a grocery list, sending a text, perusing an inbox, or planning a trip are among the capabilities.

It can also post photos directly to social media accounts. Say, for example, you recently took a photo and want to post it on X or Instagram. The Assistant will use the visual cues from the image and understand the context and help you post the photo.

Assistant with Bard is still an "early experiment" and Google says it will roll out to early testers on Android and iOS over the course of next few months.

Why It Matters: Google has been developing its large language models for several years now. However, it seems to have missed the bus when it comes to bringing generative AI services to consumers.

After being outdone by Microsoft Corp.-backed (NASDAQ:MSFT) OpenAI's ChatGPT, Alphabet took the first steps towards a similar chatbot with Bard earlier this year.

The company is leveraging the presence of its Assistant on billions of smartphones by giving it a dash of AI.
