White House Urges House GOP To 'Get Themselves In Order' Amid Speaker Vote Chaos: 'It Doesn't Look Good'

The White House has called for an end to the turmoil in the House as Republicans struggle to elect a Speaker. This comes after their nominee, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), failed to secure the position.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on Tuesday addressed the ongoing issue, The Hill reported. "It does not look good that we're seeing chaos in Congress, in the House specifically, by Republicans. It doesn't. It doesn't look good, it doesn't help. That's why we keep saying that Republicans in the House need to… get themselves in order,” She said.

The position of Speaker has remained vacant since the former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was removed earlier this month. Jordan lost 20 GOP votes in the first ballot, and a second vote planned for the same day was canceled. A second Speakership vote is slated for Wednesday at 11 a.m.

Jordan’s potential Speakership has raised concerns amongst members, who fear it could negatively impact the 2024 election campaign. The dismissal of Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.), and the unseating of McCarthy have also sparked outrage.

Jean-Pierre did not mention Jordan or any other potential candidates by name in her call for the House to elect a Speaker.

She added, “We've been very clear, this is for them to fix.”

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden and his officials are trying to distance themselves from the House drama, underscoring that Republicans alone are responsible for the situation.
