George Santos Points Finger At Former Aides Amid Ongoing Scandal: 'Literally Threw My Entire Life Into The Toilet And Flushed It'
In a recent interview, Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) has spoken up about the controversy surrounding his political career and election campaign.
As per a New York Times report, Santos expressed his perspective on the issues that have been plaguing his public life. Despite the turmoil, Santos remains unabashedly optimistic, holding onto his commitment to public service.
“I literally threw my entire life into the toilet and flushed it to get elected,” Santos shared, adding, however, that he would repeat his actions if given another chance.
Santos alleges that he fell victim to the deceitful actions of his team members, particularly his former campaign treasurer, Nancy Marks, and ex-consultant, Samuel Miele. He insists that he was unfairly targeted due to their unethical behavior.
Miele was indicted in August for impersonating a former House speaker’s staffer during fundraising calls for Santos. Santos confirmed that Miele was immediately dismissed upon discovery of his misconduct.
His main grievances, however, were reserved for Marks, who he believes is the primary cause of his campaign finance troubles. Marks recently pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy.
Despite these setbacks, Santos remains adamant about clearing his name, insisting that most charges against him are based on misunderstandings and errors caused by Marks’s dishonesty and incompetence.
Even if he were to resign, Santos’ legal issues aren’t likely to disappear. He is due to be arraigned on new charges, including aggravated identity theft, by the end of this month.
Despite facing rejection from House committees and much of his local community, Santos has continued his work, introducing over 40 bills while maintaining his optimism and resolve to fight for his innocence.
"In office, I actually have a platform. I have a voice,” he was quoted.
