DeSantis Responds To Trump Jabs Amid Height-Boosting Cowboy Boots Controversy: 'This Is No Time For Foot Fetishes'

GOP presidential candidate and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis took a swipe at Donald Trump while dismissing rumors and social media speculation about him possibly wearing height-boosting insoles in his boots.

What Happened: DeSantis, during an appearance on Newsmax, responded to allegations from rivals and media outlets claiming he wears boots to appear taller.

“This is no time for foot fetishes,” He asserted.

The Governor emphasized the country’s “serious problems,” such as “schools indoctrinating kids” and “terrorists crossing our southern border.”

DeSantis, while targeting his chief opponent, challenged Trump, who missed the first two presidential debates, “If Donald Trump can summon the b**ls to show up to the debate, I’ll wear a boot on my head.”

Why It Matters: Speculation around DeSantis’ choice of boots gained traction on social media, with claims of him wearing cowboy boots with lifts while campaigning. His campaign denied these allegations, stating his boots are standard Lucchese.

DeSantis' press secretary, Bryan Griffin, in a statement, slammed Politico for running the viral piece about the governor’s cowboy boots.

"Considering the fact that Politico Magazine admittedly spent money to consult ‘boot experts' to run this hit piece on DeSantis tells you all you need to know about their ‘journalism.' The governor doesn't pad his boots, but if he ever needed anything to line a pet cage or fold up and wedge under a table leg, that would be the highest and best use for Politico Magazine," Griffin said.

According to the polls, DeSantis trails Trump by 46.6% in average national Republican primary polls, with the Iowa caucuses set for mid-January.
