Xi Jinping Advocates For Legal Backing In China's Foreign Affairs Amid Global Tensions: 'Urgent Task'
The Chinese President, Xi Jinping, has recently called for enhanced legal support in foreign affairs, a move seen as a part of China’s strategy to deal with global risks and promote its openness.
South China Morning Post reported that during a Politburo study session, Xi Jinping labeled legal backing in foreign affairs as an “urgent task.” His goal is to strengthen China’s external relations and its ability to tackle international challenges. The information came from the state news agency Xinhua.
Xi Jinping stressed the need to create beneficial legal conditions and external environments for China’s “rejuvenation” and its diplomatic efforts. This comes at a time when Beijing is expanding its legal toolkit on foreign relations amidst escalating tensions with Washington and its allies over varied issues such as trade, technology, human rights, and geopolitics.
Xi Jinping also urged for a “coordinated and efficient” legal system for foreign affairs, improvement in the credibility of the legal process, and the development of legal services. He further encouraged China to actively participate in international rule-setting, emphasizing the need for a robust legal framework to protect the interests of overseas Chinese and improve convenience for foreigners in China.
