Apple Hits Pause On These Two Highly-Anticipated iOS 17 Features—Now Slated For A 2024 Rollout
In a surprising move, tech giant Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has postponed the release of two significant features of iOS 17 to 2024. The features in question, AirPlay in Hotels and collaborative playlists for Apple Music were initially slated for a 2023 launch.
What Happened: It is unusual for Apple to postpone announced features to the subsequent year. The absence of these two features from the iOS 17.2 public release was a strong hint towards their delayed launch.
The Collaborative Apple Music playlists, one of the postponed features, was designed to let multiple Apple Music users contribute to a shared playlist. Despite being included in the iOS 17.2 betas, this feature was left out of the final public release.
The other feature, AirPlay in Hotels, aimed to simplify the use of hotel room televisions for guests. The feature would allow guests to stream content to their room’s TV by scanning a QR code on an AirPlay-compatible TV.
Both these features were unveiled in June, after the WWDC announcement, and were initially scheduled for release in the fall. However, their absence from the final iOS 17.2 release suggests a 2024 release date.
Why It Matters: This decision by Apple comes in the wake of the recent release of the ‘Journal’ app, a tool designed to revolutionize digital diary keeping.
This new app, which allows users to integrate photos, videos, and audio recordings into their digital journals, might indicate Apple’s current focus on improving overall user experience with innovative features.
The delay in the iOS 17 features could possibly be a strategic move to ensure consistent quality across all their product offerings.
