Ukraine's Refusal To Cede Ground To Russia In Peace Talks Gains Support From Neighbors: 'Perfectly Understandable'
In the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, Poland’s President Andrzej Duda has come out in support of Ukraine’s refusal to engage in peace talks with Russia. This stance was echoed by Latvia’s President Edgars Rinkēvičs.
What Happened: In an interview with CNBC at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Duda expressed his understanding of Ukraine’s position. He stated that it is “no wonder” that Ukraine is reluctant to engage in peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, given their unwavering commitment to their 10-point peace formula. This formula includes the restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity and the withdrawal of all Russian troops from Ukraine.
Duda described Ukraine's refusal to cede ground to Russia in prospective peace talks as "perfectly understandable." he added, "They attacked an independent sovereign nation, so I'm not surprised [Ukraine] President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and those who work with him are clear about the end of the war."
He also emphasized that the conflict would only end with Russia’s full retreat, a demand that Russia has contested. Duda’s comments were supported by Latvia’s President, who advocated for a change in the West’s strategy to support Ukraine “to its victory.”

Recent reports have also revealed that Russia has obtained ballistic missiles from North Korea and is in discussions to acquire close-range ballistic missiles from Iran, as disclosed by U.S. intelligence.
