MrBeast's '$1 Car vs $100,000,000 Car' Video On Elon Musk's X Has Received Over 100M Views — Is It A Success?

In less than a week, Jimmy Donaldson, popularly known as MrBeast's first directly posted video on Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter) has received more than 100 million views on the platform — does it mean that the content creator will choose X over Alphabet Inc.'s (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) YouTube now?

What Happened: Over the weekend, MrBeast posted an old video of his titled "$1 Car vs $100,000,000 Car!!!" on the platform saying that he is testing "how much ad revenue a video on X would make."

On Thursday, the popular content creator with 232 million subscribers on YouTube and 25.4 million followers on X replied on the post saying, "100M views? Dang lol."

At the time of writing, the views number on the video had reached 108 million.

According to X’s Help Center, “Anyone who is logged into X who views a post counts as a view, regardless of where they see the post (e.g. Home, Search, Profiles, etc.) or whether or not they follow the author. If you're the author, looking at your own post also counts as a view.”

“Multiple views may be counted if you view a post more than once, but not all views are unique. For example, you could look at a post on web and then on your phone, and that would count as two views.”

This is the reason that some users in the comment section were skeptical about the video gaining such a massive number of views on the platform.

Previously, while posting the video, MrBeast had said that he will share the ad revenue from the video with his followers on the platform "next week." It is possible that he will do it during the upcoming weekend.

Why It's Important: Last month, MrBeast explained his choice of uploading videos on YouTube instead of X, stating, "My videos cost millions to make and even if they got a billion views on X it wouldn't fund a fraction of it."

In September last year, a Forbes report on the top social media creators of 2023, revealed that MrBeast dominated the rankings by a substantial margin, earning $82 million from June 2022 to June 2023. This was more than double that of any other digital content creator, reported Variety.

Meanwhile, Musk hinted at the Creator Ads Revenue Sharing initiative in January last year and the platform began tracking heavy tweeters in February. The initially essentially rewards users for their engagement on the platform. In July, when the platform started paying creators, some earned as much as $37,050

Therefore, users will have to wait a little longer to know whether MrBeast gains more revenue from posting videos on X or not.
