Watch: Marjorie Taylor Greene Storms Out Of Hearing After Being Called Out For Hugging Jan 6 Defendants

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) made an abrupt exit from a House Oversight hearing on Tuesday after being confronted about her actions during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

What Happened: During the hearing, Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) pointed out the irony of Greene expressing concern about crime in Washington, D.C. He reminded her that she had organized a visit to the D.C. jail to show support for the insurrectionists who attacked the Capitol, reported Raw Story.

“This is quite ironic that the insurrectionists that tried to overthrow our government in the Capitol City were being coddled — were being, were actually being coddled by, it’s quite a shame that you call them political prisoners or hostages, I think maybe you called them,” Garcia said.

Greene, seemingly agitated, interjected before walking out of the hearing room. Garcia continued, highlighting the contradiction in Greene’s actions.

“So I think it’s quite interesting that my colleague was trying to talk about the safety of D.C. when she literally supported an insurrection, an attack on the Capitol, visited the prisoners,” he said.

Why It Matters: This incident adds to the ongoing controversy surrounding the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. Greene has been an outspoken advocate for the rioters, going as far as to claim that they are being unfairly treated by the government. This aligns with the broader narrative that the events of Jan. 6 are a significant issue in the lead-up to the 2024 presidential election.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump’s involvement in the Capitol riot has also been under scrutiny. A federal appeals court recently rejected Trump’s claim of immunity from prosecution for his role in the riot. These developments underscore the ongoing legal and political ramifications of the Jan. 6 events.
