Chrysler Recalls About 34K Jeeps Over Concerns Of Wheels Dislodging

Stellantis NV-owned (NASDAQ:STLA) Chrysler is recalling nearly 340,000 Jeeps in the U.S. over concerns of the wheel falling outwards, thereby causing the vehicle to lose control.

What Happened: Chrysler is recalling 338,238 Jeeps where the upper control arm ball joint and steering knuckle may separate and cause the wheel to fall. The recall includes 2021-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and 2022-2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles.

As for a solution, dealers will replace the upper control arm pinch bolts that were damaged during vehicle assembly in impacted vehicles, the company said in a filing with the U.S. auto safety regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Why It Matters: Chrysler said it is aware of one customer assistance record, 18 warranty claims, and one field report potentially related to the issue across markets as of January 24, 2024. However, it is not aware of any related accidents or injuries.

The company has also issued a separate recall for nearly 28,000 Ram Promaster vehicles over concerns that the driver seat belt warning light might not light as intended. For the particular issue, the company said its dealers would inspect and replace the seat belt buckle as necessary, free of charge.
