What Happened: On Tuesday, Elon Musk took to X, formerly Twitter, to share a video clip of the recent solar eclipse as seen from orbit. The video was captured by a StarLink satellite orbiting the planet.

Many users reacted to the video which showed a dark circular shadow cast over a point on earth.

Why It Matters: The recent solar eclipse has been a trending topic, with Google searches for “my eyes hurt” skyrocketing post-eclipse, indicating that Americans might have overlooked the need for sunglasses or other protective eyewear. The phenomenon was widely observed across the United States, leading to a significant uptick in concerns over potential eye damage.

Musk also leveraged the solar eclipse to promote his social media platform, X while Tesla demonstrated the capabilities of its Megapacks during the eclipse by contributing to the stabilization of the Texas power grid. More than 10 Megapack sites operated by the company played a crucial role in maintaining grid stability, showcasing the potential of renewable energy solutions in times of high demand.
