George Stephanopoulos On Second-Term For Biden: 'I Don't Think He Can Serve Another Four Years'

ABC’s George Stephanopoulos has made a statement about President Joe Biden‘s potential second term, suggesting that it may not be feasible.

What Happened: Stephanopoulos, ‘Good Morning America’ anchor, was stopped by a pedestrian on 5th Avenue in New York who queried if Biden should resign. TMZ captured Stephanopoulos responding to the passerby, stating, “I don't think he can serve another four years,” as reported on Tuesday.

Stephanopoulos’ comment is particularly noteworthy given his recent one-on-one time with Biden, where he questioned the President’s mental acuity and debate performance. Despite calls for Biden to step aside, he has affirmed his intention to run for re-election.

During a White House press briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked if Biden would commit to serving all four years if re-elected, to which she calmly responded, “Yes.” Biden would be 86 at that point.

Stephanopoulos acknowledged to TMZ that earlier in the day, he answered a question from a passerby, which he later regretted. An ABC spokesperson clarified that Stephanopoulos expressed his personal viewpoint and not the official stance of ABC News.

Why It Matters: This statement by Stephanopoulos adds to the growing concerns about Biden’s ability to serve another term. Former presidential candidate Nikki Haley recently questioned Biden’s competence, endorsing Donald Trump for the presidency at the upcoming Republican National Convention.

These concerns are not new. Former Obama advisor Ezekiel Emanuel also expressed worries about Biden’s cognitive abilities, noting a decline in his mental acuity in recent months.

Despite these concerns, Biden has received support from some unexpected quarters. Members of the Democratic Party, including the ‘Squad’ and Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), have voiced their support for Biden’s re-election bid.

However, Biden’s campaign has faced challenges, with a slowdown in fundraising following a subpar debate performance.
