Earnings Roundup For June 9
J.M. Smucker Co (NYSE: SJM) reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results on Thursday. Smucker reported its quarterly profit at $94.9 million, or $0.82 per share, versus $120.6 million, or $1.01 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, Smucker's earnings came in at $1.00 per share. Its sales surged 11% to $1.19 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.99 per share on revenue of $1.17 billion. Smucker projects FY12 adjusted earnings in the range of $5 to $5.15 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $5.11 per share.
Titan Machinery Inc (NASDAQ: TITN) reported upbeat first quarter results and lifted projections for the full year. Titan Machinery reported its quarterly net income at $7.3 million, up from $1.6 million, in the year-ago quarter. Its earnings per share surged to $0.40, from $0.09 in the first quarter last year. Its pre-tax income came in at $12.2 million, versus $2.6 million, in the year-ago quarter. Titan Machinery's revenue surged 54.9% y/y to $318.2 million from $205.5 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.22 per share on revenue of $260.49 million. Titan Machinery's quarterly gross profit surged to $52.8 million, from $34.4 million, in the year-ago quarter. Titan Machinery lifted its projections for the full year ending January 31, 2012. It now projects revenue in the range of $1.310 billion to $1.385 billion, up from the earlier range of $1.275 billion to $1.350 billion. It now expects net income in the range of $31.2 million to $33.3 million, up from the previous range of $27.5 million to $29.4 million. It projects earnings per share of $1.53 to $1.63, up from $1.50 to $1.60.
Brown-Forman Corp (NYSE: BF-B) reported a more than two-fold year-over-year rise in its profit for the fiscal fourth quarter ended April 30. Brown-Forman reported its quarterly profit at $165.4 million, or $1.13 per share, versus $72.7 million, or $0.49 per share, in the year-ago period. Its net sales increased to $791.3 million, from $733 million in the year-ago period. However, analysts expected revenue of $731.85 million. Brown-Forman projects earnings of $3.45 to $3.85 per share for fiscal 2012.
Vail Resorts Inc (NYSE: MTN) released its results for the third quarter and announced its plans to initiate a quarterly cash dividend on its common stock for the first time in the Company's history. Vail Resorts reported its net income at $76.9 million, or $2.08 per share, up from $72.8 million, or $1.98 per share, in the year-ago period. Its total net revenue surged 18.3% y/y to $414.5 million, from $350.3 million, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $2.14 per share on revenue of $412.63 million. Vail Resorts declared its first ever quarterly cash dividend of $0.15 per share of common stock.
Viterra Inc (OTC: VTRAF) reported weaker-than-expected earnings for the fiscal second quarter. Viterra reported its quarterly earnings at C$33.1 million, or 9 Canadian cents per share, up from C$18.4 million, or 5 Canadian cents pet share, in the year-earlier period. However, analysts were expecting a profit of 17 Canadian cents per share. Its revenue surged to C$2.70 billion from C$2.03 billion. Its EBITDA climbed 37% to C$128 million.
