Market Overview

Zings Of The Day July 13, 2011

Bank of Italy governor Mario Draghi said that Italian banks are solid despite the financial crisis, and will easily pass European banking stress tests. Yea, they have a Tier 1 capital ratio of 5% mozzarella, and 6% spaghetti.

Capital One Financial Corp., (NYSE': COF) reported second-quarter net income rose 50% and plans to sell $2 billion of common shares. Sounds like a case of "Sell, Mortimer, sell!!" to me.

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) is buying PopCap Games in a deal worth up to $1.3 billion. I guess that's better than paying $1.3 billion for PopRocks, but a lot less tasty.
