Another News International Hacker Arrested

Share:

It really is going to be a long time before the dust settles on the News of the World hacking scandal and the Murdoch clan can get back to business as usual. James Desborough, the NOTW's US editor, is the 13th person to be held by police investigating the charges.

Desborough is a former show business writer at the NOTW and he was sent to LA to be the newspaper's US editor in April 2009. Obviously that was a dream gig for the celebrity-obsessed writer and that same year he was named show business reported of the year in the British Press Awards.

Desborough reported to a London police station today to be arrested "by appointment" on suspicion of conspiring to unlawfully intercept voicemails and, apparently, the charges relate to offenses that took place before he left for the States.

Still, as the Guardian newspaper in the UK says, if police are accusing him of hacking during that period, "it raises the question of whether he practiced those techniques in the US - and if so, whether he was the first and only News of the World journalist in the US to do so".

Since moving to California, Desborough has continued to come up with scoops that have thrilled some while appalling others.
