Motorola Developing New Tablet, Does Anybody Care?
For that one guy that doesn't want an iPad 2, and that other guy who won't buy an iPad 3.
Motorola (NYSE: MMI) is in the process of developing a new tablet, TechCrunch reports.
Five domains – MotorolaKore.com, KoreMotorola.com, Moto-kore.com, MotoKore.com, and Motorola-Kore.com – were registered on August 3, causing most in the media to assume that the company is making a new tablet called “The Kore.” The odd spelling of this mysterious device is perfectly in line with Motorola's other products, including the once-popular RAZR and the ill-fated Xoom.
Is The Kore actually a tablet? Could it be a phone or some other device? Absolutely. For all we know, Motorola may have registered these domains for use in the future.
TechCrunch, however, says that the company's CEO has “given us some room to play” with a few “veiled statements” made during an earnings call last week. Apparently, he admitted that Motorola plans to launch two more 4G-capable tablets and at least one 4G smartphone. He also spoke about the challenge of launching the company's first tablet, the Xoom, which shows that Motorola is definitely thinking about the future of that industry.
