Status Updates from the Other Side

Share:

Have you ever thought about updating your status on Facebook after you die?

Well, wonder no more. IfIDie.net is a new Facebook application that lets you record a message that will only be broadcast after you croak. (Or until hackers get hold of your Facebook page – whichever happens first.)

The message, of course, is yours for the choosing. IfIDie.net suggests that your final message could be a big reveal that shocks the world. But you could simply say, “I love you all, goodbye!” You know, if you're into that sort of thing.

To ensure that your message is reserved for your death and not merely a drunken Friday night where the idea of posting a “death” update sounds cool, IfIDie.net requires that three of your friends (known as trustees) must confirm your death before the message will be released.

This is great…until your friends get wasted and think it's cool to mess around with the idea.

But with more than 2,100 shared links already on Facebook, who am I to criticize? If nothing else, IfIDie.net sure beats the idea of taking a cell phone to your grave so that your family members can call you. (Yes, some people attempted to do just that.)
