AT&T Axes Limited Texting Plan for New Customers
Engadget has received a leaked screenshot, which has since been confirmed by AT&T, that the carrier will be axing its limited text messaging plan for new subscribers. The plan allowed for 1,000 messages to be sent and received for $10 per month. The changes will be in effect on Sunday, August 21, 2011.
Future AT&T customers will have to choose between an unlimited text messaging plan for $20 a month, an unlimited text messaging plan for families of up to five lines for $30 a month, or pay for individual messages ($0.20 per message or $0.30 if message contains picture or video).
Existing customers will be able to keep their limited text messaging plan, even when upgrading or switching handsets. An AT&T spokesperson stated that the main reason for removing the plan is because of the popularity of unlimited texting with new customers.
