"Kindle Fire" Tablet To Be Revealed at Amazon Event This Wednesday?
According to TechCrunch, Amazon will reveal its long-awaited Android-powered tablet computer, dubbed the "Kindle Fire," at a press event this Wednesday, September 28, 2011. The report claims that the Kindle Fire will begin shipping in the second week of November and sport a 7-inch display. The report also mentions that the tablet is being manufactured by Quanta, the same company that designed the BlackBerry PlayBook. As a result of this, consumers can expect to see similarities between the Kindle Fire and PlayBook.
The tablet is said to be running a heavily customized version of Android OS, which "looks nothing like Android," and use Amazon's own Android Appstore in place of Google's Android Market. While Amazon's solution won't offer as many apps, the Internet company is reportedly trying to get many developers onboard with the new platform.
The price of the Kindle Fire is unknown at this time, but rumors seem to point at somewhere between $250 and $300.
