Amazon in "Serious Negotiations" to Acquire Palm / WebOS Division From HP

Share:

According to VentureBeat, Amazon is currently in "serious negotiations" with Hewlett-Packard to acquire the Palm and webOS divisions from the struggling company. HP acquired Palm (and along with it, webOS) back in April of last year. However, in August of this year, HP revealed that it will be discontinuing all webOS products and since then, has reportedly been in discussions to sell off the division.

A well-placed source tells us that HP is currently looking to rid itself of Palm as soon as possible, and that Amazon is the closest to finalizing the deal, among a handful of contenders.

This news comes just a few days after Amazon revealed the Kindle Fire, a tablet based on Android OS that is designed to take on competitors such as the Barnes and Noble NOOK.

We're not really sure where webOS would fit in at Amazon other than the Kindle tablet lineup. What are your thoughts?
