Google Earth Reaches One Billion Downloads
Google announced via its official blog today that Google Earth, its incredibly popular software that allows users to view the world in 3D, has surpassed one billion downloads since being introduced in 2005. The number includes all downloads of the desktop client, mobile apps and the Google Earth plug-in.
Keyhole, Inc was the initial developer of the earth viewer app. However, at the time, it was known as "Earth Viewer." Google acquired Keyhole in 2004 and in 2005, Google Earth was launched to the public.
