Elon Musk Says You Can Take Your Model S Out On The Water, But Doesn't Recommend It
James Bond converted his modified Lotus Esprit S1 into a submarine in the film "The Spy Who Loved Me." While no modern car can claim to be able to convert into a submarine and driven in water, Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ: TSLA)'s cars do come close.
An owner of a Tesla Model S sedan was able to drive his car through a flooded tunnel in Kazakhstan. CEO Elon Musk jumped on the opportunity and confirmed in a Tweet that the car "floats well enough to turn it into a boat for short periods of times."
A video of the car "swimming" was posted to YouTube on June 17 and has been viewed more than 420,000 as of early Monday afternoon.
Naturally, Musk added in his Tweet that using a car as a boat is not recommended.

Musk followed up in a response to his Tweet that the drive units and battery are sealed.
We will leave this video in the "don't try at home" category as Tesla's warranty does not cover water damage, at least according to Electrek.
