Who Supplies The Chips In Amazon.com's Fire Phone?

Share:

Amazon.com's (NASDAQ: AMZN) Fire Phone launched last week is, among other things, a bundle of components made by an array of Asian manufacturers, some of whom may see significant benefits..

The Web site Ifixit.com on Thursday did a “tear down” of the phone that examined its innards and discovered Samsung's (OTC: SSNLF) Snapdragon and Areno chips along with Qualcomm's (NASDAQ: QCOM) audio codec and power amplifier.

On the backside of the motherboard, Ifixit found Qualcomm's power management circuit, transceiver and Wi-Fi chip, as well as a front-end module from Skyworks (NASDAQ: SWKS).

TechCrunch.com reported recently that the phone's 3D technology is supplied by Japan's OMRON Corp. (TYO:6645)

The 3D effect is created with four infrared projectors that track the user's face position so that certain screen images appear to move in three dimensions relative to the user's movement.

In a research note, UBS analyst Arthur Hsieh said serving as a Fire Phone supplier is “an incremental positive for the involved companies,” but not likely a make-or break proposition.

Nonetheless, Hsieh said the phone's camera lense supplier is Largan (3008.TW) and Sunny Optical (2382.HK) is the camera module supplier.

Hsieh said other suppliers incude ZDT, (4958.TW) Career Tech, (6153.TW) and Unimicron (3037.TW).
