Here's What Analysts at KBW Have to Say About eBay's January Comps

ChannelAdvisor on Monday released eBay's (NASDAQ: EBAY) January same-store sales data which according to Sanjay Sakhrani of Keefe, Bruyette & Woods were somewhat mixed.

EBay's total same-store sales grew 6.8 percent in January, which compares to a 5.8 percent growth in December, 9.8 percent growth in November and 6.7 percent growth in the fourth quarter 2014.

EBay Auctions saw a 16.2 percent decline in same-store sales in January, which compares to a 12.9 percent decline in December, an 8.0 percent decline in November and a 9.6 percent decline in the fourth quarter 2014.

EBay Fixed Price same-store sales rose 7.3 percent in January, which compares to a 5.7 percent gain in December, a 9.9 percent gain in November and a 6.1 percent gain in the fourth quarter 2014.

Finally, eBay Motors (Parts & Accessories) same-store sales rose 13.4 percent in January, which compares to a 12.6 percent gain in December, a 13.0 percent gain in November and a 12.4 percent gain in the fourth quarter 2014.

Sakhrani states that overall, eBay's performance across verticals was somewhat mixed with eBay Auction sales decreasing "significantly" from December levels and eBay Fixed Price and eBay Motor Sales posted "modest" accelerating growth.

"Positively, overall same-store sales ChannelAdvisor data saw an acceleration in growth in January from December levels mainly driven by increasing fixed price and motors P&A sales," Sakhrani wrote. "Recall, following 4Q14 results, eBay described 2015 as likely to be a challenging year for Marketplaces as it works through a number of new initiatives to revamp growth and refocus the segment, which could lead to continuing softness."

Sakhrani does add that it is too early to gauge how the Marketplaces segment is performing

Shares remain Outperform rated with a $65 price target.
