SolarCity Still Dominating In Solar Installations, New Data Shows
Green Tech Media, a popular news publication that covers all things “green,” released a chart showing the top U.S. residential solar installers in the first half of 2015.
SolarCity’s market share stood at a commanding 34 percent, followed by Vivint Solar’s 12 percent market share. Sunrun Inc (NASDAQ: RUN)’s market share was 2 percent, followed by NRG Home Solar and Sungevity who both held a 2 percent market share.
The remaining 47 percent market share was held by all other companies in the sector, combined.

On March 10, 2015, Green Tech Media reported that SolarCity held a similar 34 percent market share for the full year 2014, while Vivint Solar’s share stood at 13 percent.
“For the second consecutive year, SolarCity and Vivint Solar took the top two spots by an ever-growing margin,” Green Tech Media noted at the time. “These two firms alone installed more than half of all residential solar deployed in the second half of the year. The main attribute these installers share is the fact that they’re vertically integrated (in other words, they both finance and install all systems).”

Going back even further, Green Tech Media reported in early January 2014 that SolarCity installed “nearly a third” of all U.S. residential PV during the third quarter of 2013. In fact, the company installed almost four times as many residential PVs than its closest competitor, Vivint Solar.
