Nigerian Phishing Scam Sweeps the Gulf (BP)

Reuters is reporting that an e-mail scam is circulating around communities near the Gulf of Mexico, where someone pretends to be BP plc’s (NYSE: BP) Tony Hayward; the e-mail says that if the person replys to it, providing personal information of course, that they will receive $500,000 in “grant funding from BP.”

Attorney General Bill McCollum issued a consumer advisory warning Floridians about the "phishing" scam, saying it appeared to have originated in Nigeria and had been referred to the United States Postal Inspection Service for investigation.
