Capcom Confirms Future Resident Evil Remakes: What's Next After Resident Evil 4 Success?

Capcom ADR (OTC: CCOEY) officially confirmed its intent to continue producing remakes for the Resident Evil franchise following the success of remastered versions of Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4.

The specific title for the next remake has not been disclosed yet.

During a Sony Group Corp.'s (NYSE: SONY) PlayStation partner awards event in Japan, Resident Evil 4 remake director Yasuhiro Anpo expressed the company's enthusiasm for crafting more remakes, IGN reported.

"We’ve released three remakes so far and they have all been received very well. Since it allows a modern audience to play these games, it is something I am happy to do as someone that loves these older games, and we want to continue doing more," Anpo said.

While not revealing the next game slated for a remake, Anpo assured fans that Capcom planned to make an announcement in due time.

Speculation about potential titles for remakes included Resident Evil Code: Veronica, originally launched in 2000 for Sega Dreamcast. Though it received a remaster for previous-gen consoles, a remake for current-gen platforms like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC could attract a fresh audience.

Other potential options encompass revisiting the initial Resident Evil and Resident Evil 0, or progressing towards the action-centric Resident Evil 5.

Moreover, Anpo emphasized the advantage of remakes, as there's an existing fan base familiar with the original games: "In the case of a remake, there are already players that have played the original, which I think can be seen as an advantage."

He added: "We are very grateful to users that are vocal about their opinion. It allows us to develop with the player’s opinion in mind. I think this is one of the reasons why our remakes are so well received."

Notably, Capcom indicated a commitment to using its RE Engine for future projects, citing the advantages of information-sharing between development teams and its positive impact on project development speed.
