Today's Markets
As of 9:48 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average climbed 34.7 points, or 0.33%, to 11,162, the S&P 500 dipped 0.91 point, or 0.08%, to 1,164 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 9.4 points, or 0.36%, to 2,499.

A large portion of the gain in payrolls in September came from the 45,000 Verizon workers who went on strike in August, and came back to work in September.
