'The Only Thing We Can Do As An Industry Is Learn,' Says Emily Paxhia On Navigating The Cannabis Investment Landscape

"Early days hype-driven capital was wasted. It was not well allocated," Emily Paxhia, the founding and managing partner of Poseidon Investment Management said at the recent Benzinga Cannabis Capital Conference in Miami.

One of the notable conversations at the recent conference was between Paxhia and Tim Seymour, founder and chief investment officer of Seymour Asset Management (SAM) and Trader on CNBC’s “Fast Money." Seymour, portfolio manager of the Amplify Seymour Cannabis ETF (ARCA: CNBS), is also participating as a featured speaker at the upcoming Chicago conference. 

Seymour asked Paxhia about funding or legal dynamics she feels good about and what she woiuld change. 

Paxhia, with years of experience under her belt, didn’t hold back, "(...) At Poseidon, we’ve been investing in business fundamentals since the beginning. There has been a ton of capital that flew into this industry. Early days of hype-driven capital... it was wasted. It was not well allocated. I’m sorry, but it wasn’t. And it built things that were not really sustainable."

She highlighted lessons the industry can take from such oversights. "The only thing we can do as an industry is learn from that. We can only learn," she said.
