LinkedIn's Former VP Of Talent: Google's Staff Is Going To Watch Ruth Porat Very Carefully

Share:

Google Inc (NASDAQ: GOOGL)(NASDAQ: GOOG) announced early Tuesday that it will be hiring Ruth Porat, currently the CFO at Morgan Stanley (NYSE: MS), as the new CFO of the company.

Former LinkedIn Corp (NYSE: LNKD) Vice President of Talent Steve Cadigan was on Bloomberg to discuss this move by Google.

Treasure Chest Of An Opportunity

"It's a really interesting move," Cadigan said. "The hot topics down here right now are deals, and I think also gender diversity is a super hot topic.

"So, Google choosing a women to be its CFO, very powerful, but what a treasure chest of an opportunity for any CFO to take on! There's so much going on at Google right now."

New Deals

On the opportunities that both Porat and Google get to explore with this move, Cadigan said, "If you look at diversity of the opportunities that she has, the different industries that she can play in through Google, I think that's got to be exciting for her – whether it's solar energy, driverless cars...

"Google's got their fingers in lots and lots of things, and it looks like with this decision what Google is saying is, 'We want someone who can drive some growth and some new deals.' Possibly even in some new areas for the business, because she certainly brings a great portfolio to the team."

The Concern

Cadigan also remarked, "In a community of developers, the biggest fear that developers have is that the CFO is going to tighten their reins of new idea generation or budgets to try new things, right?

"And I think that's going to be one of the things that I think that Google's staff is going to watch very, very carefully is how actively is she going to be in putting controls in place or not," Cadigan concluded.
