Netflix Reaching Deal with Miramax to Stream Studio's Library

Share:

Netflix is nearing a five-year deal worth more than US$100 million with Miramax to stream the studio's library of films, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Miramax has more than 700 titles including fan favorites like Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting.

The Journal calls the potential deal “unusual” for a studio, which usually chooses to hold back its most popular movies instead of releasing its entire catalog online.

If the deal were to be reached, however, Netflix would be positioned as a direct competitor for premium cable channels like HBO, the Journal said.

The movie rental company also has plans to be the first distributor for the TV series House of Cards, starring Kevin Spacey and directed by David Fincher.
