Takeaways From ChannelAdvisor's Report on Black Friday
ChannelAdvisor released an early report which contained many interested facts about how and where consumers are shopping this holiday season.
Shoppers continue to increase their usage of mobile (phone and tablet) to make purchases. According to ChannelAdvisor, 40 percent of online traffic originated from these devices. Computers accounted for the other 60 percent of traffic.
Mobile conversion rate on the other hand, was somewhat low at 1.3 percent (compared to 3.4 percent conversion rate on computers). Either consumers are using the devices to conduct research on products (and had no initial intention of making a purchase) or mobile-oriented sites are not as easy and convenient to finalize a purchase when compared to a computer.
Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN) is the clear winner so far with an estimated 30.7 percent increase in same store sales year over year. eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY) reported a 26.2 percent increase in same store sales over the same time period.
“We are off to a strong start to Holiday 2013,” Scot Wingo, ChannelAdvisor CEO noted but cautioned “we only have one out of ~24 days in the records so we need to see what happens through the Cyber Five."
The research firm was set to release another Black Friday update on November 30.
