Facebook Testing New Portal to The Past
Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) is set to introduce a new service that targets members who like to re-live their past. The company is experimenting with a feature inside the News Feed that allows users to retrieve an old post from their Timeline.
“Throwback Thursdays” will be easier for users to participate in as Facebook is “testing a new way to help you remember favorite moments by making it easier to revisit previous News Feed posts,” a Facebook spokesperson told AllThingsD. “When you click on this notice, you will see a selection of some of the top posts from your News Feed from a year ago. This is just a small test at this stage.”
While the Timehop-like feature might sound “cool,” it is by no means a new feature that is set to propel the social media company forward. AllThingsD reported that the feature “isn't being pushed out widely at the moment” and serves only as a tool for “nostalgia and self-reflection.”
Timehop is a standalone app that allows users to look back up to several years at old photos, tweets and posts from most forms of social media.
